About Randy
Hi! I’m Randy, currently, an Environmental Engineer for the Air Force. I’ve been exposed to a wide variety of many different STEM fields (chemistry, engineering, and microbiology) in varying types of sectors (teaching, cancer research, military, and compliance).
I graduated from UC Riverside with a Bachelors in Chemistry back in 2016, and acquired a Masters in Environmental Engineering from UC Irvine back in 2017. Throughout my schooling, I worked on projects, in association with the USDA, looking at multiple strands of E. Coli and their association to foodborne pathogens, all while dealing with the chaotic distress that is undergraduate college. During graduate school, I was a teaching assistant for the Chemistry and Biology Department, where I managed over 30 students per discussion/lab. Because of my empathetic nature and understanding of what it feels like to be an undergraduate student (I was 22 yrs old at the time), I was able to better understand the individual student’s struggle of the curricula and adjust my teaching methods to a more holistic approach.
After graduating, I entered the cancer research field as a research associate, where we affiliated with local hospitals working on better ways to diagnose early stages of the disease. Seeking better opportunities and understanding the urgency of climate change today, I switched to environmental engineering where I ensure that clients comply with local and federal environmental regulations.
My way of teaching is by allowing students see how their knowledge can be applied throughout daily life. I believe education should NOT be for a letter grade and prefer a more practical way of learning.
