About Ziad

Hello! My name is Ziad Asadi and I will be entering my second year as a Biomedical Engineering major at UC Davis. I've always loved math, science, and engineering so I figured the best way to show my enthusiasm for these subjects was through tutoring. I've taken almost every AP class related to math and science so I have a keen understanding of the topics discussed and what students tend to have the most difficult time grasping.

I want to help my students to realize their academic potential. During tutoring sessions, we will focus on what the student needs the most help with and try to discover relationships between everything that they are learning. We will be sure to have a fun and engaging time together!

I have been tutoring for over 3 years now, mostly for high school students taking AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP Calculus. I earned a 4 on the AP Chemistry exam and a 5 on both the AP Biology and Calculus BC exams. When meeting with students, I usually travel to my students' homes but I also meet with students in coffee shops or libraries. My favorite accomplishment as a tutor was turning one girl's frustration with AP Chemistry at the end of first semester to a genuine love of the subject. Her grade rose from a B- to an A by the end of the year.

I can't wait to meet all of my new students!

I first started teaching my making tutoring flyers and posting them at local supermarkets and coffee shops as well as signing up as a tutor at my high school. After a few weeks, I started getting phone calls and emails asking to set up lessons.

I am entering my second year as a Biomedical Engineering major at UC Davis, so I have been working on chemistry, biology, physics, and higher level math for at least 4 years. Although I do not have specific teacher training or credentials from a university, I have a passion for teaching and my past students have shown great success.

When working with a new student, I greet him/her and learn more about his/her hobbies so we gain a greater connection. I then proceed to find out what the student wants more help on from their class first by asking then by presenting a few practice problems I have prepared beforehand. From there I can understand the student's strengths and weaknesses and continue to work with him/her on them.

I have worked with students as young as 5 years old to even some adults. Most of my students were in middle and high school however.

My advice to any student seeking help is to first know what subject you need help with and try to narrow down specifically what you're having trouble with. This helps make tutoring sessions more focused and productive and can help relieve more confusion than if we were to go ever many different topics in one session.

My most memorable moment while tutoring was receiving an excited call from one of my AP Chemistry students after she received her score of a 5. She told me that I made all the difference in her chemistry learning and helped her turn all the hate and frustration she had for this difficult subject into a genuine love. Not many things have made me smile as much as that phone call last summer.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about specifically what they need help with instead giving us a broad subject to cover. A good question to think about is "what topics can I teach someone else and what topics are harder for me to explain?" This way, the student knows what their strengths and weaknesses are.

A one hour lesson with me costs $40. If I have to drive especially far (more than a 15 mile radius from my house) then I will charge $5-10 more.
