About Stone

Hi! My name is Stone, a 22 year old student who recently graduated from UC San Diego with a double degree in Biochemistry/Cell Biology and Public Health. I have experience predominantly teaching K-12 and undergraduate students in the basic sciences (general biology, general chemistry) and some upper division science (molecular biology, biochemistry).

Tutoring is special for me because I know what it is like to be a lost student who wants to experience that thrill of success. I'm here to tell you right now that you can achieve anything you want, you just need the right strategies and mindset to make that happen. My expertise particularly lies in supporting recent high school graduates making their academic transition to college a little easier. I will be not only a tutor, but a mentor and source of guidance for you as you pursue your studies.

I was inspired to pursue Wyzant as a tutoring option because I value the one-on-one experience, in-person or virtual, that Wyzant offers!

Send me a message and we can chat for a little bit to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

I have experience teaching in the Barrio Logan community of San Diego with students age ranging between the 6th and 8th grade. In years past, I have been privileged to work with students with ADHD, helping them achieve their goals while providing support through difficult transitions. Typically, my expertise lies in Pre-Algebra and Algebra, but I am willing and capable of tutoring any math topic short of Calculus.

At UC San Diego, I have served as a teaching assistant to multiple professors across my 4 years. I have experience teaching General Biology, General Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with a particular expertise in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry.

By far, I believe I provide value as a science tutor in that I push the student to integrate and understand science concepts from multiple perspectives, hopefully forming what I call a "patchwork quilt" of knowledge that will vastly help you in your future endeavors as a scientist.

For me, it's important to first message me so we can get to know each other a little bit before we decide to meet. Price can also be negotiated.

Let me know!

Best,

Stone

I started teaching in high school, teaching students Spanish I, II and General Biology. Then, I progressed to UC San Diego and served as a teaching assistant across my 4 years, teaching general biology, general chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology.

And here I am today, eager and interested to work with you!

I graduated from UC San Diego in 2019 with a degree in Biochemistry & Cell Biology.

I have experience tutoring for the past 7+ years, teaching general chemistry, general biology, molecular biology & structural and metabolic biochemistry.

The first thing I do is try to get to know the student better. I ask about their career interests and any short-term goals in our tutoring process that I can help them achieve.

My tutoring strategy will provide you with a full-proof study system that will lead to your success. I know from experience what it takes to be successful in these courses, and believe I can help you achieve what you have set out to achieve in your classes.

The majority of my experience lies with college students (freshman to senior) in the basic and general sciences.

I have the most experience with freshman general biology students, and junior molecular biology & biochemistry students.

Additionally, I have worked with K-12 students affected by Autism and ADHD. This experience has without a doubt made me a better teacher.

Choosing a great tutor is centered around three things: academic competency, patience and support. In studying the basic sciences, you need to understand how complex ideas and topics come together, into a system of knowledge. This will allow you to use critical reasoning skills to come up with novel solutions to complex problems.

I really am passionate about baseball and golf! I love sports. My favorite sports memory was attending the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla, California. Also, watching the 2019 World Series.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The student needs to consider what is truly keeping them back from learning the subject well. Is it their schedule? Is it their discipline? Is it the amount of "repetitions" they are using to study the content?

When the student can be honest with themselves, then we can move forward, together.
