About Danah
I am currently a third year at The University of North Texas studying Music Education with a focus in Clarinet studies. My goal as of now is to get a head start on my career and to get more experience as time goes on before I graduate.
I myself have taken private lessons for over 8 years on clarinet, which gives me a structure to build off of and I know what students should expect when working with a teacher and how to properly work with students.
My goal with students is to help them achieve farther than they have imagined for themselves. I hope to build their interest in their instrument to continue to push them and give them motivation to practice on their own.
I do have one student that I have started working with that I’ve known for a while which is helping me gain experience and adjust how I would like to go about speaking to new students and what would be the best type of music to use for certain level of players that would be easy enough for them to learn.
I enjoy watching the students I work with and watch as their faces light up or how excited they get when they have been working hard to get a certain part in their music and they finally get it perfectly. It makes me excited just thinking about all the things that my students will be able to accomplish as they continue to work hard. I strive to keep motivated, and it keeps a ting of adrenaline as I work with students, it’s enjoyable to watch and work with.
My friend actually reached out to me and asked if I could reteach her on clarinet since she hasn’t played in a while, which really helped me get a base.
I am currently a student studying Music Education at UNT, so I have many classes teaching me basics of teaching students and I have worked with a student before that helps give myself insight on how I want to teach certain things and move forward with lessons.

I would first ask a couple of questions to get to know them then work from there asking about any experience they have their instrument. This will help me determine what kind of music and books I should use when working with them. I will be very active in giving feedback and options that will help them proceed on in their journey of lessons.
A beginner to low intermediate student is what I have worked with so far, so teaching them notes and rhythms and how to blow properly into the clarinet. The highest I have worked with is learning whole solos with some complicated rhythms like sixteenth notes but not much farther from there.
I would say to look for someone that has more than enough experience of teaching to work at the level needed. Mainly if you are a higher level player, I would suggest to look for someone with a lot of experience. I would also suggest to look into the teachers personality and talk to them before committing to anything to see if your personlaities would match up well.
My first lesson with my friend that I am reteaching, because we were serious but also goofing around to keep the mood light so she would not get frustrated when trying to relearn things.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe they should definitely think about if this teacher is someone that is someone that can work with the level they’re at.
