About Joan & Katie
We are originally from Cuba and Miami, where we began our dance studies. We have degrees from The Juilliard School and the Instituto Superior de Arte. We have been teaching Dance and professionally performing for about 10 years. We are currently professional dancers for Parsons Dance. Our training in dance includes ballet, contemporary, Afro, modern, latin social dance, and gymnastics. We also have two years experience in teaching dance therapy classes to children with Autism and Parkinsons. We are both Barre fitness instructors in NYC, but have created our own fitness class that incorporates dance cardio, HIIT, and pilates. We try to incorporate and integrate those body and mind connections within our class. Aside from our understanding in these forms of exercise, we are eager to teach a class that promotes strength, fitness and a healthy lifestyle. We are committed and reliable employees and are prepared to lead a fun and energetic class as your instructors.
In our classes we strive to be encouraging and motivating teachers. Being that pedagogy is a big passion of ours, giving one-on-one feedback, and making sure that our students have a good understanding of the exercises is very important to us. In order to keep our students engaged and determined to work efficiently, we try to create a very open, positive, and safe environment. We are also passionate about teaching fitness and dance for therapeutic and healing purposes. We strive to be great at communicating and promoting positive energy to fuel healthy minds and bodies.

I’m very inexperienced so he made me feel comfortable with beginner dancing and learn in a fun environment. Also he’s very experienced across many styles of dance so can teach most styles I’m interested in learning!
Joan challenges both my physical and mental aspects in his class. The movement and challenging and can be intimidating but through his guidance I feel safe and well informed to try the phrase work he presents.
I’m by no means a professional dancer and I’m very shy. But, taking just a few classes with JoJo helped me with my self-confidence and opened my eyes to the world of dance.
Jojo is very good at making you feel comfortable in the space and he introduced me to the studio. I definitely recommend taking this class! It is very fun and he is super enthusiastic!View more recommendations
