About Byron
Hello,
I’ve been playing drums for 26 years, and I’ve been teaching private drum set lessons for 17 of them.
I enjoy teaching students of all ages.
My lessons are designed to give the student a foundation in several styles, reading, and technique, but they can also be tailored to focus on the student’s specific interests. My main goal is to keep lessons relaxed and enjoyable, and to share the joy of music creation and appreciation with my students.
When I’m not teaching drum lessons, you can see me playing in various musical situations ranging from rock and R&B to jazz and country. I lead and compose for the Byron Johnson-Blanchard Quartet, and I’m also a co-leader and composer in the band Silverback Trio. Silverback Trio released our debut album in 2017.
I hold a degree in percussion performance from McNally Smith College of Music.
