About Annette
We teach the history along with the rhythms, so you learn when it's appropriate to play that rhythm.
Each person has a unique way of learning, and that is discussed from the first lesson on so you have more Fun and faster Progress!
We also build drums and offer repairs!
It's great to see the light go on when someone gets it.
Having fun and taking the stress out of learning is something we pride ourselves on:)
It just happened during a class I was taking one day. The instructor had to step out for a moment and asked if anyone would jump in, so I did!
3yrs of djembe, with some performances & many drum circles.
Studied with some amazing teachers! Adwoa Kudoto from Ghana, and J Davis who has played and studied for just shy of 20 yrs.
Certified Drum Circle Facilitator
4 yrs of Irish drum (bodhran). I play in the local Ceili (dance band), and have performed quite a few times with the bodhran.

First we talk about goals - where does the student want to play - for fun at home, in drum circles, perhaps performances, etc. and also how soon they want to achieve that level.
We'll explore how the student learns best - talking, watching, jumping right in, or maybe a combintion.
It's time for some learning! Dependent on the above answers, we'll begin learning a rhythm.
Then we create a curriculum together. This is a cooperative venture, and input & feedback are important.
Mostly adults, and women. Women seem to feel more secure with a female teacher.
Must say I am not all that talented when it comes to teaching younger students under 15.
Talk with them first! Get a sample lesson.
I have admired many great drummers, but found out we weren't well-matched as teacher/student.
And I have had great teachers who suprised me . . . I didn't think they would be a good match at first.
Also be clear on what you want out of your lessons, allow yourself time to learn and make 'mistakes'.
Be open and honest. If you are exploring and not sure if you'd want to stick with that particular instrument, let the teacher know.
Playing bodhran with some wonderful folk and amazing visiting Irish student Ambassadors at a house reception. It was a great evening with good music and good people.
Playing djembe AND bodhran at the Contra-dance get-together. THAT was fun!
