About MARIA
I have many years experience tutoring and teaching students in the US as well as foreign countries (and continents) from pre-K through University students. I enjoy watching a student achieve their goals and I take great pride connecting to students of all ages. I sincerely believe that very student can learn!
I enjoy observing students achieve their goals and watching them gain confidence; I celebrate their achievements along with them.
Master of Science, English Linguistics, Hofstra University, summa cum laude; Bachelor of Art, English Lit, Long Island University, summa cum laude. I also studied for one year, Regents College, London, England; one semester, Cambridge University, Cambridge, England; two semesters, Zheijiang University, Hangzhou, China: summa cum laude.
I work with Special Ed and Honor/AP students tutoring various subjects including English/ESL (reading, writing and social studies) Pre-K, kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, university students. I have also tutored adults through age 60 plus to read and write!
I taught English and English as a Second Language in public schools on Long Island and New York City and I tutored and worked at Nassau Community College, and Zheijang University, China (middle school and University students.)

Primarily, I strive to make the student comfortable and at ease in order to lower the ‘affective filter’ - to increase confidence and the desire to learn. I become familiar with the student as I assess his/her strengths as well as challenges and find out what his/her goals are.
I have worked with Special Ed and Honor/AP students tutoring various subjects including English/ESL (reading, writing and social studies) Pre-K, kindergarten, elementary, middle school, high school, university students. I have also tutored adults through age 60 plus to read and write!

I have helped seniors, university and graduate students, prospective medical and law applicants, medical and law school students compose and edit personal statements, research papers, medical and law journals.

Well, I can't say enough wonderful things about Ria's Tutoring Service. She helped my kids so much as they went through various school grades. She is not only extremely knowledgeable in tutoring English on all levels, but expert at helping students write their college application essays too. I'm almost sure that my daughter got into the college of her choice because of Ria's expert writing tutoring on her college essay. Ria helped my kids from elementary school through middle school and high school. I kept hiring her not only because of her educational experience, but she has a great way with kids of all ages - they absolutely loved her. She's kind, sweet, funny, witty, and an outstanding English tutor.
She was an excellent and resourceful addition to my studies. Maria was helpful in developing my essays and helping me dig deeper to get more substance to my essay as well as helping with my grammar, which id=s horrible.
