About Claudia
I am currently working on earning my Masters of Arts in Teaching Special Education from The College of New Jersey. I graduated in May of 2020 from The College of New Jersey with a B.S. in English. English has always been my passion. I enjoy helping my peers editing their essays and papers, helping my peers and friends prepare for upcoming standardized tests by quizzing them and giving them tips on how to correctly answer grammar related questions, and I also enjoy creative writing as well. I recenlty started a blog, which I use a way to share my creative writing pieces. Recently, I helped my friends' edit their grad school application essays, I edited my freind's edTPA ( which is a standardized test required for the teacher's licensure in the state of New Jersey today), I helped friends' edit their final papers for the semester, and I have been helping my youngest brother with his remote English lessons during quarantine. I will help students achieve their goals by helping them to realize their fullest potential. I believe that every student is worthy and deserving of success in the classroom. I want to help students create pieces of writing that they are proud of. I will do this by guiding them, not doing the work for them. I will tell them what has helped me to create powerful pieces of writing in the past, in the hopes that this will steer them in the right direction with their writing pieces.
I will not have my teacher's license until the spring of 2021. I will be completing my student teaching in the fall of 2020. However, I have expereince in various practicum placements, substitute teaching, being a preschool teacher, and teaching dance as well. I started teaching preschool when I was seventeen. I started teaching dance when I was nineteen. I had my first practicum experience when I was nineteen as well. I started substitute teaching when I was twenty, and I have been actively substitute teaching ever since.
The education and/or training that I have that relates to my work includes attending The College of New Jersey and taking education courses for four years. I have taken courses on the psycological development of children and adolescents, courses on literacy stategies to implement in the classroom, courses on math structures and algorithms in the classroom, courses on science and technology in the classroom, courses on how to address behavior in the classroom, courses that focused specifically on poetry, courses that focused on literature from the 1900's to the present, multiple Shakespeare courses, and courses that focused on the effects of social media today.

My typical process for working with a student is to start by inquiring about their strengths and weaknesses. Since we will be conducting tutoring sessions using an online platform, I would start a conversation with the said student about what they feel like excel in and what they beleive they struggle with. I will ask the student what they want to gain from the tutoring session or sessions, depending on the grade level. If we are working on essays or creative writing pieces, I will ask the student to email me or share with me a document of a piece of writing that he or she wrote in the past. I will assess the piece of writing and determine what I believe are the student's strengths and weaknesses.
I have worked with a wide range of students in the classroom. For example, in the spring of 2020, I worked with students' in multiple disorders classrooms on teaching them social skills. These students were in grades first through fourth. There was a first and second grade classroom as well as a third and fourth grade classroom. I have worked with preschool aged students when I taught preschool from seventeen to twenty. I have worked with first grade general education students, third grade general education students, and Kindergarten general education students as well. I have also worked with elementary aged students with austism as well. I also worked with them to teach them social skills. I have worked with fourth graders when I was a senior camp counselor in the summer of 2019. I have experience working with students in middle school and high school as well, as I have worked as a substitute teacher in those grades as well.
The advice that I would give a student looking to hire a teacher in my area of expertise would be to hire someone who is passion about English. Quality writing and a strong understanding of the English langauge comes from people who are passionate about studying English. If the teacher you choose to hire openly expresses his or her passion about English, they will no doubt try to rub their passion onto you. This will in turn help you to be more determined to improve upon your writing and literacy skills and strategies.
A recent event that I am fond of was graduating from The College of New Jersey with a B.S. in English. I was fond of this event because while I was not able to walk because of the unprecedented circumstances that we are facing, the day was special nonetheless. I got to zoom with my best friends from college, my cousins planned a "graduation parade," I got a dozen free donuts from Krispy Kreme, my family and I took lots of pictures together in the front lawn, we ordered dinner from my favorite Italian place, and my best friend for all four years of college drove by my house to wish me a happy graduation. It was still a momentous day, despite the given circumstances.
