About Kristin
I have nine years of experience as a university teacher and tutor in both the US and Afghanistan. In addition to native English speakers, I have worked with students whose native languages are Mandarin, Arabic, Persian, Pashto, and Urdu. I enjoy working with ESL students and helping them develop their voices. My greatest strength is my ability to explain English grammar and conventions in a way that is clear, practical, and entertaining!
I have taught English composition, creative writing, literature, and media literacy at the university level. I have published both academic work and fiction. I have experience with AP English Language and Literature exams, a perfect SAT Verbal score, and a perfect GRE Verbal Reasoning score, as well as a 5.5 GRE Writing score.

It's important to me that students explain what they hope to achieve through tutoring. Being able to identify a problem or goal is the first step to solving that problem or achieving that goal!
I generally ask students to send me a representative writing sample— something that has NOT been edited by someone else. This helps me understand the student's strengths and weaknesses. I can then design an appropriate action plan that will allow me to walk students through a program of strengthening their skills.
