About Julissa
I am a former grade 3-12 classroom teacher who has recently transitioned into teacher preparation and instructional coaching. However, in an effort to stay connected to the needs of grade 3-12 students, I am venturing into online teaching and tutoring.
I am experienced in tutoring in the areas of English language grammar, essay writing, as well as analyzing and interpreting literature. I am also a licensed TESOL (ESL) instructor and can work with students of varying English language proficiency levels (newcomer to commanding).

By far, the most rewarding part of my work is seeing students push past their perceived limitations, and achieve more than they ever thought possible. I love working with children, but I also enjoy working with young adults pursuing their GED, or preparing for an important job interview.
Tutoring led me to pursue teaching as a career.
-6 years ELA and ESL classroom teaching experience with grades 3-12
-7 years elementary school tutoring and after school programming
-Certified TESOL teacher
-10 years resume building, interview prep, writing support

I begin with targeted questions aimed at learning more about the client's needs and learning style. I then work with them to develop a tutoring plan.
All levels of English language proficiency, as well as students struggling with attention deficit, dyslexia, and dysgraphia. I have also worked with native speakers looking to improve their reading fluency and creative writing skills.
Be honest about your needs and enter with an open mind.
Helping students develop reading fluency and find their voice in writing are some of the most rewarding experiences I've had.

I worked with Ms. DiLone in middle school to become a better writer and further a more critical thinker. During my time with her, I not only achieved these things but also witnessed her working tirelessly to create a learning environment that makes every student feel welcomed and intellectually stimulated. This atmosphere she created made me want to continue learning and coming back for more. Now as a college student, I recognize that her teaching style has gotten me to where I am today.
In middle school, I was having a hard time finding the right words, but when I started working on my reading and writing skills with Ms. DiLone, I felt as if my vocabulary had expanded as well as my understanding of content and was able to deepen and work on my analysis. I particularly focused on historical fiction with Ms. DiLone and was able to connect it to current events. This was truly an experience as I discovered my interest in history, politics, and traveling. Needless to say, Ms. DiLone has not only helped and pushed me to grow as a reader but has also helped me travel in my freshmen year (HS) and influenced me to become the person that I am today.
I really loved the teacher and personal relationship I had with Ms.DiLone. As my teacher, she was very patient and showed me new ways to better my work. Ms.DiLone made sure that whatever we learned, we would use it outside the classroom. She introduced me to new cultures and ideas not only through the classroom, but the outside world as well, through various field trips. Our relationship didn’t stop only at the classroom, she continued to help and prepare me for life, and I am very grateful for that. She is someone you can count on, during and after school and I am so blessed to have met a genuine person like her. I strongly recommend her as a tutor, as she can help a person grow in many ways. I enjoyed my time working with her and can’t wait to work with her in the future again.
I think Julissa would be an amazing candidate for U.S. Based Reading and Writing Tutor. Julissa is a well-organized, extremely competent, and resilient woman. Her supportive nature leaves in imprint on the heart of those who work closely with her. With her creative style and natural empathy, Julissa leads with patience and love. She is a dedicated educator and very passionate about empowerment. Julissa displays professionalism and is a driving force in our community. With her strong bilingual skills, she makes communication seamless between the community and Spanish speaking families which has led to bridging the connection and celebrating diversity! I am impressed with her flexibility, attention to detail, and ability to incorporate data driven informed decision making skills. Julissa exhibits exceptional knowledge of google and technological skills. She is a rockstar!
Having someone who lives in the U.S. made it easier to connect due to time difference. However, the other advantage is that she is very familiar with the U.S. education system and was able to offer support that was both targeted and relevant.
When I was promoted to Office Manager, I needed help learning the ins and out s of google drive and spreadsheets. Julissa couldn't have made it easier for me. She caught on to my style of learning and how I retain information even before I did. Julissa knew that audio, visual, and hands on step by step guidance was what I needed to fully grasp the proper and complete use of the programs. She is truly a wealth of knowledge.
