About Kaela
In school I've always been an Honors student with a rigorous course load, so I am very sympathetic with how stressful it is for a subject to be out of your grasp. I'm incredibly patient and have been working with others for years, and I enjoy teaching! I think doing something you're happy to do makes all the difference in the world, and there is no doubt students feel that. Approaching something someone may be apprehensive about with enthusiasm shifts the mindset in a way that I can only describe as beneficial!
I am very much a people person, so in that respect, I love working with others to begin with! However, I've always been very passionate about learning, and sharing that with another brings me joy!
I started off helping my friends when I was younger, and then moved onto peer tutoring roles. After working with children (sleepaway camps, babysitting, and nannying) I got more practice and really found that I love helping people learn!
I've worked as a peer tutor through middle school, high school, and now in college. I also part-time nanny (5 and 9 year old) and assist my students with their homework, provide study guides (as well as work to do over the summer), as well as exam prep (from the teachers and State).

Usually, I'll want to see how they work/process what the teacher has given them! A lot of the time they just need to change the way they're thinking/approaching the topic, and then learning it as a whole is super easy! Once I can figure out the best way to approach it then I can best find what it is they need to work on, tricks and shortcuts to help questions seem less intimidating, etc.
I've worked with boys and girls from the ages of 5 - 20! Some with learning disabilities (ADD/ADHD, dyslexia), slight developmental delay, as well as Asperger's.
Patience is key! Stressing out over something you don't understand, or calling it quits early won't benefit you. Take a deep breath, maybe even a break for a couple of minutes, and try and think what it is about the topic that's giving you a hard time! Be patient, and don't be too hard on yourself. No one is perfect at everything.
I work with a family in Westchester and as the school year came to a close and report cards were rolling around the 9 year old I work with became very apprehensive about his grades. He felt that even though he'd been doing well academically something would go wrong (like he would get a bad mark for behavior or something along those lines). In efforts to cheer him up we went to Dave and Buster's, and while there his father gave me a call ecstatic over his phenomenal report card. Watching his face light up made me so happy! It was so rewarding to see all his time and effort come to fruition.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is this something I can solve myself, or am I frustrated and calling it quits?
Have I put my best foot forward when trying to work on this?
Did I check my work to make sure this makes sense and that's why my answers are incorrect?
Where in this process did I start to lose my understanding?

I do not. I'm usually willing to talk out a price, however I do have a base rate! Given how dedicated I am to my students and how accessible I try to make myself, I have a base rate of $30/hour.
