About Sarika
I'm very passionate about education and I love to help elementary to middkd school students get ahead with Maths and English in whichever areas they need extra support.
I'm a junior English major at Temple University with an additional Art History minor. I have an online tutoring service but I'm also able to meet students in the library or at their house, whatever they are comfortable with.

While studying classes for my English major I became interested in pre-k to Middle School level education as I thought this is such an important an essential age group for our society. If I could get the chance to tutor even one student and thereby help them succeed in their academic goals, that's one more person of that generation ready to contribute positively to our planet.
I first began teaching middle school students in after school clubs and reading to elementary school students as a high schooler; and I progressed from that to learning more about teaching/ education as a major field of study at university, which is where my passion for wanting to spread knowledge expanded further.
Teaching is and will always be a passion of mine especially seeing that as a teacher, you are also ever a student.

I attend Temple University where I study English to a depth that I feel incapables me to teach younger students the basics and important frameworks. I also spent time tutoring Middle School children all throughout my high school career and I thus, have plenty of experience working academically with students.

To begin with, the student and I need to establish what our goals are. What academic accomplishments does the student want to have further developed by the end of their time working with me. Additionally, and quite importantly, I will need to learn what kind of learner the student is (i.e. visual or auditory or any other kind). I want remain as flexible as possible so that I can cater by pedagogy to the specific needs of the students.
I have worked with a small array of different kinds of learners. Some require visual pictures to help them understand the literary aspect, others need auditory assitance, some need both, and other students have found their own unique ways of retaining their education. I have had the privilege to work will many types of learning which in turn better develops my pedagogies for various areas of the subject being studied.
The advice I would give to a student looking to hire a teacher in this field of English is to ask questions! Ask what their style of teaching is, ask what their specific area of expertise is, ask if they can help you with your specific questions. Ask ask ask ask questions!
Look at whatever portfolio work they provide you, see where their credentials are from and how legitimate they are. Ask for a resume, or for recommendations.
Hearing Amanda Gorman perform her absolutely amazing poem at the inauguaration in January is one of my fondest memories of the year so far. So eloquent, so powerful. You have to watch it if you haven't already. She moved political, liguistic, and rhythmic waves.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. What is the specific topic I need help with?
2. How can I phrase my question clearly, concisely, and understandably?
3. Has this questioned already been answered in the class (check your notes/worksheets/handouts)
4. Will this be a long or short question/response interaction? Warn your teacher of how much of their time you require. We are eager to answer your questions but we are also on time schedules so be mindful of that.
5. Can this question be better communicated and answered through an email or with a live conversation?

Sarika was a great help with clarifying some confusing concepts in my English class (high school), and I'm glad that she is available through Zoom.
She is very easy-going and fun to work with. We started our session by discussing what my main goals were and then created a sort of lesson plan for our next sessions. She said she would work a little more on the lesson plan and then email to me.
