About Jolie

I am available to assist all levels of English Reading and Writing, everything from proofreading essays and fiction to assisting with spelling and grammar practice, to studying reading and literature! I am also available for psychology and sociology tutoring, as well as related subjects. Additionally, I tutor basic math skills, pre-Algebra, and Algebra I.

I can transform your writing and not only make it the best it can be but teach YOU how to make your writing stand out! This is important for teachers, professors, employers, and even college admissions staff!

When working with children and teenagers, I focus on critical thinking skills that will help improve their English, history, SAT, and humanities subjects. I allow the student to guide the conversation by creating a safe environment to explore new ideas and connect those ideas.

I love working with children especially -- I am certified and trained with AFIRM to work with special needs children. I like to build a trusting relationship with students, where we can be friends and get work done - I believe that this is what helps children grow and develop their skills. I tend to be strict with the quality I expect while always having fun with learning. Learning is meant to be enjoyable, and I intend to teach that learning is a wonderful thing to all of my students. I believe that education is the key to improving our society and our children are where we have to start. I intend to instill a love of learning in children I work with to encourage children to grow up and be strong leaders in our community.

I also enjoy working with young adults and professionals - I believe that our language skills can always be improved upon. I develop existing skills to appeal to employers, colleagues, teachers, professors, and admissions officers. I can edit emails, papers, cover letters, application essays, and more!

I am an undergraduate at Brandeis University studying psychology, Russian Studies, and Health: Science, Society, and Policy. I have extensive experience working with children and teens in varying environments.

About the lesson

I start by asking what a student has worked with and done in the past and what kind of strengths and weaknesses they consider that they have. Depending on what they are looking for, I may ask to see a sample of writing to determine their skill level and problem areas. I also may assign a benchmark assessment to track progress over the course of tutoring!

When Richard was diagnosed with ADHD we had a lot of trouble finding someone so willing to be patient enough to work with a person like my son. He was always a bright kid but when it came to English, he just couldn’t keep focused on the books, of no fault to himself. He would get so worked up over his low grades that he would come to me crying. Thankfully we had Jolie come over for some sessions to help him get caught up more in his class by request of his english teacher. This proved to be just what he needed, someone as patient and knowledgeable as Jolie to help him get back on track and develop a new feeling of confidence in school. She’s very good with him and even helps him work on a few tricks to help him get his condition a little more under control. Jolie is incredibly passionate about psychology as she’s told me and plans to attend college and major in some form. She knows she’s no expert but just the way she talks to him makes me convinced she’s reached him. I suggest her for any parent in the area in need of a tutor for a child, no matter who they may be. She’s a wonderful young girl and on behalf of my family, we are so thankful for her help
