About Elena
I am a freshman at the University of Maryland studying English. I got 5s on both AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition. I was a peer writing consultant for two years in high school. I can Skype tutoring sessions and give quick and comprehensive feedback on any essays or writing and reading activities. I can work with students with different reading and listening comprehensions. Once I know the learning goals, I can give exercises and activities to the student to practice to improve their English. I have a flexible schedule.
I have a discerning eye when it comes to papers and I am good at spotting what is working well in a piece of writing and what can be improved. Everyone has a different approach to writing and I keep this in mind when meeting someone new. Telling students specifically what to change is not useful in the long run, so the first thing I so is try to pinpoint what you are trying to say. If you don't know what that is yet, then a brainstorming session is in order. Grammar, spelling, and wording are certainly important, but I believe the most important part of an essay is its purpose.
I love teaching and helping others learn and grow. As a tutor, I can help my students in a targeted way that is very rewarding. I really enjoy the creative process of writing. The more I tutor, the more I learn about the English language and how to most effectively use it. Most importantly, I love to see my students have successes and improve their reading and writing skills.
