About Sarah

If you've got a question, not only will I help you discover the answer but I will help you develop the skills and abilities to answer your own questions! I have an advanced understanding of math, reading and writing and a passion for helping students grow. I've developed tools for meeting all students' learning needs through academic training and years of classroom experience working with a wide range of students. I am a distinguished teacher and have helped many students improve test scores, develop new skills, build on their passions and turn areas of confusion into areas of confidence. I am a 2015 Teacher of Promise and an Auggy Award Winner for Leadership in Education. I love teaching in a way that helps any student love learning!

I am an educator in heart, mind and soul- I love to help people grow! For five years, I have worked with elementary and middle school students and have been rewarded daily by seeing students gain progress and confidence in math and English. From mastering a skill you've been working on to passing the SBA, I love being able to listen to your goals, coach you along the way and celebrate with you when you reach the final destination!

I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in literacy from The College of William and Mary. In addition, I have five years of classroom teaching experience from Kindergarten - 8th grade and a proven track record of increasing student scores on standardized assessments. I specialize in elementary math, but also have experience with ESL/ELL and tutoring secondary English.

My first actions involve getting to know the student. I want to know what their goals and preferences are so that I may adapt my teaching strategies to fit their needs and interests. I then introduce myself briefly and explain how I will help the student meet their goals, whether that be helping with a one-time assignment or creating a long term plan of improvement in math, reading or writing. I assess the student's strengths and areas of need and determine a baseline from which we can start building. Then, we celebrate the improvements as they come along!

I have worked with students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade from a wide variety of backgrounds. I have extensive experience teaching students from English Language Learning backgrounds. My professional roles include a classroom teacher, a specialist, a small group coach and a private tutor.
