About Tyler
I graduated from Harvard in 2018 with a Bachelor's in stem cell biology and a minor in economics. I was a tutor at the Harvard Writing Center for three years, where I supported students in expository writing, senior theses, and grad school applications. I also participated in the Harvard College Bound Mentorship program, where I coached local high school students on their college essays.
My tuttees have matriculated to undergraduate programs at Ivy League schools, started at top law schools and MBA programs, and have won awards including the Harvard Hoopes Prize for outstanding senior thesis and fellowships including the Fulbright and Rhodes.
I am excited to work with writers of all ages to support their academic aspirations through essay brainstorming, drafting, and revision.

I have a bachelor's degree from Harvard University, where I graduated magma cum laude. I submitted an honors thesis to the Human Developmental & Regenerative Biology Department, which received highest honors in part for my clarity of scientific writing.
I spent three years as a student tutor at the Harvard Writing Center, working with hundreds of peers on their class assignments, grad school essays, and senior theses. I chaired our scientific writing group, and have a strong background in expository writing. I also volunteered for the Harvard College Bound Mentorship Program, working with local high school students to develop their application essays.
Since graduating, I have personally written applications that were accepted to the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and the University of Pennsylvania Masters of Health Care Innovation programs. I am a part time student at the latter, currently.
My mentees have matriculated to top undergraduate and graduate programs across a variety of scientific, business, and social science disciplines.

I like working with students through a combination of live video sessions and individual writing assignments.
Depending on how far you are in the writing process, I typically advise starting with an hourlong introductory session to understand your goals for the essay or application, and begin brainstorming your key points. As you work through your writing, we hold follow up sessions at least on a weekly basis, and more frequently if you prefer a quicker pace or have a fast-approaching deadline. I ask students to send me their drafts at least two days before our follow up sessions so I can make comments and grammatical redlines as necessary.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I encourage my students to come to our intro session having brainstormed the angle for their essay. What are you trying to accomplish in your writing? What story are you trying to tell or argument do you seek to prove?
I will support your work from brainstorming through drafting and revisions but ultimately it is your ideas that will flow onto the page.

Details
My rate starts at $40 per hour. This includes video or phone working sessions, as well as time spent reviewing and revising essay drafts outside of these collaborative sessions. At a minimum, I ask students to schedule at least one working session per week, which averages $80 including pre-session review.
If students book 3+ sessions per week, my rate goes down to $30 per hour.
