About Miranda
Bonjour!
My name is Mademoiselle Mira Rios and I'm an online French teacher. I'm a second year teacher who has been studying French for over 12 years. Before beginning my teaching her in the United States I lived in France and taught English as a Second Language.
Additionally, in college I work for EMU's Academic Success Center helping students to develop lifelong study habits and organizational skills while emphasizing the importance of positive mental health in Education.
I'm certified to teach both English and ESL in Michigan.

Working with students is truly a passion! I love working with students to develop lifelong study techniques that are unique to each student. Every student is different and every study plan should be different. Education is not one-size-fits-all.
My Grandma was a teacher and I got started early helping her grade her papers! I also took a Teacher Cadet class at my high school. I've been hooked ever since!
I graduated from EMU with a bachlor in French Education and ESL. Additonally, I lived and taught English as a Foreign Language in France for a year.
I currently work as an online French teacher teaching students at the French 1, French 2, and AP level. I am set up to teach completely via Zoom, so no contact is necessary.

When starting with a new student I like to have a few days to review any material/assignments you are able to send me. This allows me to get a good idea of the student's level and the teacher's expectations.
Next, I like to have an open and honest conversation with the student. What are their study habits? What interests them inside and outside of school? Do they actually like French? This gives me amazing insight as to how I can best target student needs. That includes everything from pushing and challenging students who can vision a career in French to making French less painful for those who are just in it for the state requirement!
After that I'll target the students needs from week to week creating unique and individualized tutoring plans, including fun activites students can use throughout the week when I'm not with them.
I have worked with a students ranging from middle school to college level. Additionally, I've also worked with students with autism and cognitive impairments.
Be painfully honest with your teacher about what does and doesn't work for you. If we're teaching you one way and you're retaining nothing, don't just nod your head and pretend everything is okay. Everyone learns differently! We're not going to be offended if you need us to change it up. The more honest you are, the more we're able to help.
I try and make virtual education as fun and engaging as possible. Recently my students and I particiated in a game of French Culture Heads Up! It was VERY rambunctious, chaotic, and tons of fun. :)

Mlle Rios' is an absolute talent at tutoring French! My 7th grader sits in his French class not understanding any of the concepts, but after 30 minutes with Mlle Rios' every week (sometimes 2 times), he always has complete understanding. She has such a way about how she engages her students. The teaching is at a basic step-ward progression, which is perfect for those struggling. My son just got a 100% on his quartering French exam, thanks to Mlle tutoring him. She is very gifted at what she does with her teaching. She even creates practice games online for him to help learn key concepts. Lastly, her personality is so fun and welcoming! We recommend her to anyone!
