I began my musical experiences in the womb. With three older sisters all taking piano lessons and Mom monitoring the practice and hollering - "wrong note" from the ironing board, I had very early exposure. Formal lessons began about age 4 or 5, but no one really remembers me not making music. From my early intro to piano then sax, oboe, pipe organ, theatre organ, Hammond/Jazz/Blues organ through recorders, thumb piano, guitar, folk percussion and so much more I just can't live without it. At some point I figured out how to teach others and it turns out I've got a knack for that.
I have bachelors and masters degrees in music performance from the famed Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, affectionately known as "the music factory." My exposure to the enormous professional faculty (150 full-time) and student body (1800 students) afforded many opportunities to learn how to pass on my love for music.
I'm a people person, the kind of piano teacher that students want to see week after week. I love getting to know the students and how they learn. I also love watching as they progress. With video cameras on our phones now, it's a very simple matter to document progress with a quick video.

Starting an instrument for the first time in your mid-30s is intimidating and difficult, but Randy made fun and easy. Additionally he is flexible to complicated schedules for shift workers and typical 9-5 folks.
Randy taught me as an experienced-musician adult-beginner on guitar -- it was fantastic. He knew just how to help me get started. He chose great yet technically simple songs to work on while learning basic techniques. I made great progress and had a great deal of fun during those lessons. They inspired me to start back on piano (which I was quite accomplished on, but hadn't played in decades) lessons with Randy. We are having a ton of fun, I am enjoying playing and practicing, and music is back in my life. I highly recommend Randy for adults and children wanting to learn something new and for those wanting to get back into something they used to love. Randy IS Music, and now I am, once again.
Randy Is Music is one of the best presents I ever gave myself! I had taken piano lessons in my youth, but was nervous about trying again. I never knew music lessons could be so much fun! I learned so much and found myself looking forward to practicing and going to my lessons. Randy made me feel completely comfortable with my abilities yet challenged me to improve.
