About Joel
I work hard to cultivate a lesson plan around each of my student's unique relationship with music. I have been playing guitar for sixteen years and I have been fortunate to work with many guitar teachers who have instilled in me a passion to learn the instrument and develop a musical ear.
I have studied both classical and contemporary music at Liverpool University and Berklee College of Music respectively, and am passionate about all styles of guitar playing.
I have studied contempory and classical styles privately and at higher education institutions. I have been fortunate to study guitar and theory under many inspiring musicians, including Don Lappin, Joe Stump, Anthony Steinmetz, and Mike Tucker.
I have played many styles of music professionally, both on-stage and in the studio, and have a deep knowledge of music theory thanks to my professional and academic experience.

My best experiences working with a new guitar teacher when I was younger was when they would take the time to get to know what musical styles and artists I was into. From there, they were able to cultivate lessons that developed my playing and musical ear from the get-go. I am a firm believer that anyone is capable of obtaining a respectable level of ability on the guitar given that they are provided a fun and rewarding learning experience. This does not mean shortcuts, it simply means that a new student would be excited about putting in the work.
Practice should not be boring when you first start learning an instrument. If your guitar teacher is sending you home with boring material to practice, your teacher is boring and/or does not care about your musical interests.
