About Rodney
My Name is Rodney, I have 35 total years experience playing guitar and 20+ years experience songwriting, live performance, touring and studio work. I teach guitar out of my love for the instrument. I maintain only one student at a time (I really put my all into whoever I'm working with). I'm originally from Louisiana and cut my teeth in one of what I believe, to be the best and most diverse music scenes in the United States (plus my father was one of Louisiana's premier live guitarist, so I was literally raised in rehearsal rooms, backstage & moving equipment). I was extremely fortunate to hone my craft of playing guitar writing, playing, recording and touring in some great bands, with spectacular musicians, as well as; sharing the stage and studio with some true Louisiana musical legends and national acts.
The biggest thing I learned over those years, was to find my personal sound, style, techniques and voice with my instrument. I believe every player/musician has these qualities, no matter how deep down & hidden they may seem. My goal as a teacher is to find sincere students (through a small interview), then help those students to not only learn notes, how to play chords, scales and songs but more importantly; find their musical/instrumental voice. Then take that voice/sound and develop it into their playing, writing and presence.

I love watching & experiencing the change and maturation of a player. For instance, that point in which a player makes the move from thinking constantly about what they're playing to really controlling their instrument & making it express what they're hearing and feeling. I call it the change from musician to an artist.

I like to really tailor my lessons to the student (in other words not all people are in the same place skill-wise or learn in the same way). I will spend the first session, really getting to know the student and their goals with the instrument. I then begin learning and evaluating the students abilities and knowledge. After the first session, I will develop a personalized lesson plan and path. I am always willing to adjust as needed to help the student grow in their abilities and gain the confidence needed to move forward.

Rodney is absolutely the greatest & we were so sad when he moved to Dallas. My son worked with him for almost three years. It was so crazy to see the changes in my son’s playing and his personality. He can definitely hold his own with older and more accomplished musicians (it’s pretty cool to see their faces). But, the very best thing Rodney gave, was the lessons of confidence and self-esteem. My son is more comfortable with who he is, loves who he is and doesn’t want to “Fit In”, as much. Just the fact Rodney helped my son find his originality, musical gifts and to love being unique was worth the time and money spent.
