Upon first meeting we will explore students past experience (if any). Discuss interests in music style, expectations and goals. Maybe there is a specific song they are interested in learning? I Will cover basic instrument details such as maintenance/tuning/changing strings etc
First few lessons are (typically) teaching the students ‘beginner’ chords & eventually moving on to scales & theory coupled with songs or riffs of students preference which coincide with the lesson material.
My students range from 10 - 50 years old.
Make sure it’s going to be FUN! it has to be a hobby, an outlet, if it’s not fun, the interest rarely stays, particularly with the youngsters. Make sure the instructor You are considering is up to speed with your musical taste and expectations. Find somebody you can talk to and who can relate musical terminology to you in a way that you are able to understand.

My 13 year old son takes lessons from BJ and it is amazing to watch the way BJ interacts with my son and inspires him by teaching him with the music my son loves to listen to. After each lesson on the way home my son really opens up and engages me in conversations about music, playing and various instruments and I can tell he is excited and inspired to learn how to play. On top of all that, BJ is just an extremely nice and personable guy. He even makes ME want to learn how to play! If you are weighing your options between multiple instructors, BJ would have my vote hands down.
BJ is so good at playing so many different types of guitars. I was and am very impressed by his talents!
Most importantly though he is a great teacher with a great attitude and personality to!
I can’t believe how low BJ's charges are for his personal lessons.
In my opinion you will not find a better teacher or price or person to teach you whatever guitar or guitars you want to learn how to master.
We have been so delighted with these lessons for my 10 year old daughter! He is great with kids and is able to customize to her needs. He is reliable and responsive and plans ahead for lessons. We have been to other teachers and this is the best!
Bj is great! Great flexibility, easy to understand, and he makes the lessons enjoyable. They're never monotonous or boring while still managing to go over everything needed to learn. His main goal is to teach you what you want to learn for your goals, which is the most important part.
