About Jeanna

Hi, I am Jeanna. I love learning new things and helping others to learn as well. I studied elementary education with an added history minor at Eastern Kentucky University. I have spent many hours in many classrooms at every level of education, studying, learning, volunteering, tutoring, assisting, and observing. I am a parent of four. My two oldest daughters have graduated, both early, my youngest daughter is in her junior year and is home-schooled. She will be graduating early as well. I also have a 9 month old son. I can offer tutoring in various subjects: math, English, history, and science to name a few. History is my favorite and with the right educator can be very exciting. I have also studied several years of Spanish. I worked for five years at our public library as well and enjoyed working with genealogy, children's literature, and junior and young adult fiction. I also provided basic skills computer classes at the library during my time there. I can offer virtual tutoring one on one or in a small group setting. Whether help is needed to bring up an English grade, strengthen your reading skills, study for a history exam, brush up on fractions, or even to write a book report, I would love to help you reach your goals! Whether you are in third grade, seventh, or a sophomore, I can build lesson plans tailored to your personal needs and goals. I look forward to working with you and watching your mind grow as you learn!

Even as a child I loved teaching.  When I was just eleven years old I would play school with my 3 year old cousin, whom stayed with us on weeknights while his parents worked second shift, and in doing so, I taught him how to read, his numbers, and how to add and subtract before he was old enough for preschool.  When his parents took him for his preschool entrance exam, they were shocked to learn that their child was already more advanced than an average child entering the first grade. That experience only deepened my love for teaching others. 



I studied elementary education with a history minor at EKU. I have assisted, tutored, and studied in all types of classrooms from K-12th grades. I spent five years working at the public library working with both children and adults in reading, computers, and genealogy.  I am a parent as well that has taught my own children from every subject.

When I begin working with a student for the first time, I like to learn what goals they have that they would like to meet or exceed by the end of our sessions. I also like to learn about them and their style of learning, as well as how they learn. This way I can be sure to meet their needs and build lesson plans that meet their learning needs. 



I have worked with a variety of students and young children under the age of four.  I have worked with every grade level from kindergarten to a senior in high school. I have worked with advanced students, students that were slightly behind, as well as students with learning disabilities, such as autism, developmental delays, reading impairments, and more.  I also worked for a few years with a reading program called great leaps that was implemented to help struggling readers improve their reading skills by having one on one tutoring 2 to 3 times a week.  I worked with a similar intervention program that targeted math skills for elementary students as well. 



First decide what goals you want to meet.  What are your expectations and educational needs?  Once you have outlined your educational goals and a timeframe for meeting those goals, you should discuss them with any potential tutor in detail.  Will they be able to help you achieve those goals?  How can they help you reach your goals?  Are they comfortable with the subject matter/matters that you need help with?  Are they able to develop lesson plans that meet your style of learning so that you have a much better chance for success?



I have been overjoyed with the recent birth of our son just nine months ago.  He amazes me everyday with just how smart he is, and he already loves books.



A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure that the goals and timeframe are realistic and as detailed as you can be.  For example instead of asking for tutoring in math, make sure they understand that you need help with fractions, or maybe it is adding fractions specifically.  Don't set yourself up for failure by using an unrealistic timeframe.  For example if you are struggling to read and need help writing a book report, and you haven't read the book yet, one or two sessions may not be  enough time to accomplish that goal.  A good tutor will tell you that instead of just making promises that they can't keep.

One on One Sessions are 1-2 hours depending on the subject matter and the grade level.

1 hour = $30  1.5 hours = $40  2 hours = $45

Small Group Sessions are 2 hours and are $20 per student. Must have a minimum of 2 students to hold a small group session and a maximum of 5 students.
