My area of interest is in Functional Equitation for all levels and styles of Riding. I utilize a combination of classic traditional systems and natural horse training techniques, striving for an end result that is internationally acceptable and esthetically pleasing to both horse and rider. Specializing in Dressage for the imperfect horse, Gymnastisizing, and Balance in Retraining Cases. (Been riding for over 50 years / All Styles - ARIA Certified) *CURRENTLY ONLY ABLE TO WORK W/ STUDENTS WHO PROVIDE THEIR OWN HORSE*
I started teaching by default through helping coach my friends as a kid riding in our local 4-H Club back in the 70's. My first actual paid "Riding Instructor" gig was as a Teacher's Assistant at the University of Rhode Island where I attended in the early 80's. I've been doing it on the side ever since!
I have 50 years of riding under my belt and have trained with many late, great "Old School" Instructors in my youth, both in America and Germany!

My process for working with a new student is to determine what level of riding experience they have and what level of training their horse is at. Then I have to establish what the student's riding goals are and what educational steps are needed, plus what approximate time frame it may take to reach that goal. Each new student/horse team must be evaluated on an individual basis.
Over the years I have taught all styles and age groups. BUT I have always required that my students be serious and dedicated about their riding, striving to polish up a little slice of equestrian excellence, regardless of their age, level, or style. I am very “old-school” and endeavor to see my students progress into eventually becoming their own “Best Trainor”.
I would advise a student to honestly contemplate their riding goals and very cleary articulate what their expectations are when discussing their learning desires with a potential instructor. Instructors need to know where you're coming from and where you are expecting to go. There are SO many levels and styles to this subject of "Horse Back Riding"!!!
By chance, I recently ran into a former student of mine from 20 years ago! I was so happy to hear that although she had given up riding for a while to raise her own family, she was now "back in the saddle" again with her own horse and has many fond memories of our former lessons! She said it all came back to her, like riding a bike!!! She is now teaching her own kids to ride and remembers well all my "Safety" logic. This touched me deeply, and I'm so honored she is now "carrying the torch" to the next generation!!!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A potential riding student needs to determine how many hours a week they are actually willing and able to deidicate to practicing this sport. Do they have their own horse, or will they need to rely on "lesson horses" at a local Riding School? If so, are they interested in Group or Private Lessons? If they are riding their own horse on their own property, do they have an arena or round-pen they can train in year round?? If so, how is the seasonal footing and is it well lit??? Also, a student needs to be honest and realistic about their current level of riding and courage. Such factors will influence what a student's initial dialogue will be with any potential riding instructors.

Details
My current standard rate is $40 per lesson per approximate Hour (which time-frame may run more or less, depending on what subject matters need to be covered and/or what topics have been mastered!) This current rate is based on a 20 mile radius around the Seaford DE area, and beyond that I add on an extra travel charge calculated by mileage.
