About Gene
I have been practicing and teaching T'ai Chi Ch'uan for nearly 40 years. I have come to the point where I feel my skills are best passed on one on one, as everyone in T'ai Chi Ch'uan needs to uncover their own direction. I hold group classes in push hands as that is where students can interact with one another to discover common ground and to enable them to understand T'ai Chi Ch'uan as sensitivty and self defense training. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is not confrontative. It enables one to control an attacker's energy through acceptance, blending and yielding. Even the most aggressive attack can only be controlled by becoming one with its energy. Only when you are one with that energy are you able to then direct it harmlessly or break it. It is only when you are apart or seperated from it, is it able to break you.
T'ai Chi Ch'uan is also a healing art, a meditation in movement, a method of accessing and directing the force of chi, the body's source of internal energy and an art that can create a more fulfilling spiritual path in life. It enables communication with others, the earth and all living things. So it is my journey to open the path of T'ai Chi Ch'uan so that each of my students gains the ability to move in the direction that is most challenging and rewading for them.
Learning Tai Chi Ch'uan is the best thing I have ever done for myself in this life. Having the opportunity to pass on an art which can improve my students' lives is an honor and a joy for me.

To discover what it is they aspire to gain from the practice of T'ai Chi Ch'uan and move them ahead in learning the movements of the Yang T'ai Chi Ch'uan Form. It is here that one begins to refine and understand the basis of effective movement and control of his or her body. The way most people are taught to move is far too yang or full for T'ai Chi Ch'uan. One must learn to incorporate yin, or empty movement as well. That is where balance is achieved. The heart beats and then it relaxes and another beat is possible. A muscle contracts but then relaxes and another contraction becomes possible. Without this critical relaxation the body soon becomes overloaded and unhealthy. In T'ai Chi Ch'uan we learn the power of relaxation. This is how T'ai Chi Ch'uan is a method of actually extending one's lifespan, as to overwork the body only succeeds in shortening it.
