About Christopher

Hello! Thank you for taking time to view my profile! My name is Chris and I am a full-time credentialed middle school math teacher with nine years of teaching experience. At an early age, I was exposed to the world of teaching due to the fact my mother was a teacher. I was always fascinated with the teaching profession, but I also had an interest in business. Therefore, I decided to get my undergraduate degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. During my four years in college, I spent much of my free time tutoring locally and coaching various after school sports teams. It was during this time that I began to develop a passion for teaching others skills that they did not previously possess.

After I graduated from college, I got a job at a large public accounting firm as an auditor. Although I was good at my job and enjoyed the work environment I was in, I still felt something was missing. I began to reminisce on how much I enjoyed tutoring and coaching students while I was in college and remembering all of the wonderful stories my mother would tell me about how rewarding her job as a teacher was. It was at that moment I decided to change the trajectory of my career path and go back to school to become a full-time teacher. It was a difficult decision to make, but I feel my experiences working at a public accounting firm have enabled me to provide my students with real-world expertise that students will encounter after college.

I then enrolled at Mount St. Mary's University in Los Angeles and earned my single-subject teaching credential math as well as a Master's Degree in Education. Since earning my graduate degree, I have been fortunate enough to have taught for nine years in both the private, charter, and public school setting to students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

As a classroom teacher, I have encountered students from all backgrounds and with a wide range of academic abilities. With that being said, I specialize in differentiating the curriculum in order to ensure all of my students are learning and are being challenged according to their needs. I have taught intervention math courses, honors classes, and general education math. Regardless of the level of math I have taught my students, I make it my passion to bring out the best in my students and to help them not only do well in math, but to help them develop an appreciation for math.

With the arrival of the Common Core State Standards, the mathematics curriculum from K-12 has become increasingly rigorous. It is not good enough for students to simply complete the calculations; rather the students must be able to explain their reasoning and to apply critical thinking to the problems at hand. I work very hard at what I do and take my job as an educator very seriously.

With that being said, I want to explain how my experiences as a teacher translate to me being a good tutor:

· Fully credentialed and experienced middle school math teacher

· Differentiated Instruction

· Scheduling Flexibility

· Responsive

When I am not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my wife and dog, visiting amusement parks, playing and coaching basketball, and relaxing at home.

Teaching is my passion and helping students is what I do best. I am very easy to each and will respond back to you in a timely manner. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!

I have always had a love for math and business, so I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with an Emphasis in Accounting from Cal Poly Pomona. I worked at a public accounting firm as an auditor for a couple of years before I decided to go back to school full-time to be a math teacher. I then graduated with my Single-Subject Teaching Credential in Math and Masters Degree in Education from Mount St. Mary's University in Los Angeles. I also like to stay informed with the newest teaching practices and thus have attended various professional development seminars including the exclusive Mid School Math Conference in New Mexico.

As a teacher, it is my job to find out the individual needs of my students. The same applies to my tutoring services. I will ask the parents what they would like their child to improve upon in math, if they want me to provide supplemental challenging curriculum, and/or to help their child improve their grade. Once I know the needs of that specific child, I will then work with the parents to set up a flexible tutoring schedule that works best for both parties.

I have worked with students from all different walks of life. I have worked with students that are lacking in basic math facts, students that are average students in the classroom, but want to take their learning to the next level, students that are struggling in the current math classes and need extra support, and students that want an additional challenge to their current math curriculum.

The other day in my class a student who had been coming to me after school for additional help with me for about a month received her test score back on Equations and Inequalities and was so elated to see she had earned an "A" on her assessment. She was so excited to show her friends and even asked me if she could take a picture of her exam from my "Wall of Fame" board so she can show her parents. I was so happy to see her hard work pay off.
