About Aren
I can also tutor for flute and diatonic/chromatic music theory!
I specialize in finding different ways to explain concepts using examples, visual comparisons, or comparisons to mechanics of things the student is interested in to help them understand—most of the time, they just need to be taught differently one-on-one than the way their current teacher is able to teach them in a classroom setting.
In 8th grade, my band director asked my class to provide one-on-one instruction to some of the 6th grade band kids that were struggling. Having that experience made me realize I would enjoy teaching and led to me pursuing leadership positions in high school and majoring in music education in college.
I was a section leader and drum major in my high school's marching band, as well as the director of my high school's flute choir. I've done one-on-one tutoring with three students for flute, as well as just generally providing academic help to peers (and their younger siblings).

First I like to ask some questions/do some icebreakers to help us get to know each other and then ask what they specifically want help with. If they aren't sure about something specific to work on, I ask to see an assignment that they had trouble with and look at what may have gone wrong and/or what their teacher's feedback was. From there I try to appeal to things they already know to make the concept clearer to them and work them through applying the concept.
5th graders through 12th graders. I've mostly helped with math homework and writing essays (both in a narrative style and in the AP style).
Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask to move on to something else when you're feeling overwhelmed.

Aren is fantastic to work with! They are patient, attentive to details, and funny to boot. They are able to explain nuance in ways that Make Sense, and easily adapt to various confusions or weird problems.
I ESPECIALLY love their approach to language as a living thing: not dead, not static, but constantly evolving and specific to different cultures, situations, and social contexts. Aren makes writing something based in purpose and empathy for your audience. 10/10, would always recommend.They had helped me significantly with my college essay and had given great advice and constructive criticism. Aren also helped my brothers learn math curriculum without putting mental stress on them. Additionally, they were flute section leader in the marching band where Aren has to teach multiple people music and marching technique.
