About Kilando
Hello, my name is Kilando, and I am currently studying economics at Harvard College. Ever since I was a little boy, I would arrange my bedroom as if it were a classroom and teach my imaginary students. The fervor I had for teaching and tutoring carried with me throughout my life. Because of that, I have devoted much of my high school career and summers tutoring students just like you in subjects like math, economics, and the ACT.
I began my tutoring service in high school; it was free, and the initiative was to assist socioeconomically disadvantaged students within my district with the ACT. After a few months of this service, I decided to branch out on my own and do peer to peer tutoring for the ACT, algebra 1, and calculus 1 (also known as ap calculus ab). The average starting ACT score of my pupils is 18.5, and the average final score is 21.
My ACT test scores are a 36 English, 35 Math, 35 Reading, 34 Science, and 35 Composite. My AP exam scores are 5 Calculus AB, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and 4 English Literature and Composition, English Language and Composition, Biology, US History, AP Spanish Language and Culture.
My ACT and AP scores demonstrate that I have found proven techniques to perfect (or nearly perfect) one's math skills. For example, I increased my ACT Math score from a 27 to a 35 in less than nine months, and I scored a 5 on my AP Calculus AB exam. I am currently tutoring a pupil in Algebra 1 who has made extensive growth. I also taught someone 25% of the entire ACT Algebra 1 curriculum in one two hour session so our sessions will always be productive and didactic.
My goal is simply for the student to be successful in both the short and the long run so any constructive criticism and resources the students/parents can provide will always be graciously accepted. I respond promptly to students so please feel free to contact me. Let the tutoring commence.
I began tutoring my junior year of high school when I began a free ACT Tutoring Bootcamp every month for the socioeconomically disadvantaged students of my school district. Since then, I have privately tutored up to fifteen individuals, each of whom experienced significant growth in the subjects they were studying.
As far as education and credentials go, I scored a 35 on the ACT (English 36, Math and Reading 35, Science 34). I scored a 5 on my AP Calculus AB, Micro, and Macroeconomics exams and a 4 on my AP English Lang, English Lit, US History, Bio, and Spanish Lang exams. I am a student of the Harvard class of 2023.

The first thing I ask a student is the definition of the subject they are studying. For example, if the subject is algebra, I would ask "What is algebra?" This questions causes the student to actually know what is they are learning, for what reasons they are learning it, and how it may be beneficial to them in the short or long run. Afterwards, I access the students weaknesses and strengths. On any subject, we will focus more on perfecting the weaknesses and refining the strenghts randomly yet logically through our sessions.
Most of the individuals that I have worked with are either high school students or college graduates planning on retaking their ACT to avoid the Praxis 1.
When looking for a teacher, I strongly advise that the student or parent gives the teacher a sample homework question. When the teacher/tutor explains the question, the explanation must be concise and understandable whether the explanation is written or spoken. Also check to see if the tutor/teacher attempts to not only explain how a question is solved but WHY it is solved that way.
