About Olivia
Hi, my name is Olivia, and I am thrilled to work with your family and your student! I’m 18 years old & have been a virtual tutor for 2 yrs. with the organization Learn to Be in elementary-level core subjects, high school Latin & math, APUSH, & more. I live in Ossining & can meet virtually or in-person, anywhere biking or walking distance from my home (both the Ossining and Croton libraries work). Here is a brief list of my personal stats and academic qualifications:
Recently graduated from Loyola School in NYC, first in my class
Will attend Harvard University in the fall to study philosophy & sociology
Scored a 36 on the ACT & 5 on every AP exam I’ve taken (AP Lang, APUSH, European History, Comparative Govt., & U.S. Govt.; still awaiting 4 scores from this spring)
Captain of Loyola Speech & Debate, Varsity Volleyball, Basketball, & Softball & newspaper editor

I’m patient with students & don’t give up until they feel confident. I’ve tutored students w/ attention & processing issues, so I use a variety of activities to keep kids engaged & focused. Whenever possible, I avoid using a lecture style so that students can articulate their thought process, answer questions about the material, and receive clarification where they are confused. I’ll tailor my approach to your child & always try to be flexible to your schedule & financial needs.
Before our first session, I would like to meet with your family and your student to learn about their academic needs, necessary accommodations, and goals for our time together. When needed, I can employ a diagnostic test in our first session to identify where a students' weak areas might be and to avoid reteaching skills they already have down. I am always open to feedback! If my style or methods do not work for a student, I want to know. The growth of my students comes first.
I have worked with a wide variety of students, across age groups, academic areas, personalities, and difficulties! As a Learn to Be volunteer tutor, I've worked with students as young as first grade, teaching them basic math skills & grammar and reading them fun stories to develop comprehension. Due to the pandemic, the majority of tutoring I have done has been virtual. If I can keep the focus of an 8 year old on Zoom, I am positive I can keep your student engaged!!
I have also worked with students as old as me, both as a peer tutor at my school and as a volunteer Zoom tutor for students across the U.S. The high school subjects I have covered include advanced physics, Algebra I, AP United States History, writing skills, Latin I & II, and more!
Getting into Harvard was an experience that validated the four years of hard work I've poured into my academics, extracurriculars, and passions (especially because I know firsthand how annoying and gruelling the application process can be)!

This tutor was very thorough and patient in her teaching, as well as flexible in meeting times. I liked that they didn’t mind to repeat things when I didn’t understand and would actively engage with me asking me questions to know where I am at with my understanding.
