About Abigail
Hello! I graduated from Western Oregon University in 2020 with my Bachelors in Middle Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I also took several courses in primary mathematics education. My time as a middle school teacher has given me the opportunity to gain foundational skills and experience teaching students with a wide range of learning needs. My teaching philosophy is focused on student growth and achievement through a hands-on approach. Each student will be held to high expectations where they are pushed to succeed while engaging in productive struggle. In my classroom students learn how to meaningfully collaborate with each other to increase their conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning skills. In order to implement the above, I create an inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and where there is mutual respect, trust, and integrity. Moreover, through my teaching I find it important that students are able to see the bigger picture of mathematics, which means teaching beyond rote procedures. Students have the opportunities to make real-world connections and apply their knowledge to everyday scenarios. In doing so, students are more receptive and eager to grow in their mathematical capabilities. My teaching philosophies will easily translate beyond the classroom and into tutoring. I believe with my enthusiasm, education, and experiences, I would be a great fit for tutoring your child!
