About Alan
I graduate of the University of California, Irvine and Mount San Antonio College. I like to show the small tips and tricks that are not often taught in school and the experiences that I have been through. Things that I had to learn myself when it was too late. My style of tutoring is to help stimulate independent thinking and develop real world skills that people often have to learn themselves. Instead of just focusing on exams and paper, I like to provide students with experience by exploring career or education paths with them.
I enjoy helping students learn real world experience. I enjoy their realization in what their interest and strengths are.
I started teaching when I worked as a tutor for student athletes. There I developed an interest in tutoring and counseling when I help a student passed her statistic classes. Her excitment when she received an A for the class sparked a sense of joy in my work that I helped contribute to someone else's success. So I enjoy helping those achieve success whenever I can.
Other than have a bachelor of science in earth system science from UCI, I have been part of two labs that have tested me on the knowledge that I have learned in class and my own ability to learn new concepts in an unfamiliar field. I have also tutored many college athletes in math statistics, and science at Mount San Antonio College.

Initially I would help students improve their grades in class. Then I would shift my focus to help stimulate independent thinking within the students. As they progress further into their education, there are only so much a tutor can help with. So I want to help them develop their critical thinking skills in situation when they are only relying on themselves. And the last thing I would do for a students is help them find experience and interest. One thing most people forget are experience and skills. And I enjoy counseling the student on their career or education path. This way they have a clear goal that they can work towards. These three were the missing things I needed before I started college but developed as I went through my undergraduate years.
I have worked a variety of students that range with students who are struggling and requires learning the basics beforehand and students who just needs guidance and assurances that they are on the right path. Every students have their own learning style and speed. And I often consider that first and then help them develop their critical thinking skills next.
Never give up and learn from your mistakes. You only fail when give up.

I think the students should think about what will they achieve before talking the teacher and accept what they will receive as an answer.
