When a new student comes with certain questions, I like so start off with asking what they know that relates to the questions they have. I like knowing their background with the subject to have an overall idea of what Im working with and help them more efficiently.
Ive worked with elementary students, but spend more time working with middle schoolers. Ive worked with special ed. students as well and have found ways to make it fun and engaging for students of most grade levels.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Although its hard for students to ask questions or initiate conversation, they shouldnt be afraid of asking questions. Although theres no right or wrong questions, they should come in knowing what they need help with.
