About Amaya
Hello! My name is Amaya Lopez. I am a rising senior at Santa Monica High School. During this time of quarantine, I realized I wanted to give back to my community. I decided to start my own small business tutoring younger kids at a very low cost! I understand how hard these times can be economically, and I want to help the next generation without penalizing their parents.
I am an AP Student-athlete at my high school. This year, I received almost all A's while maintaining my position on a competitive club volleyball team. I was additionally the captain of my school's volleyball team, this past year. I am also a Teen advisor for an app called Teen Talk, where I was formally trained to help my peers cope with life. I also maintain a position as secretary of a club called Get To It, where we are environmental activists. My job required me to record meetings, take attendance, and assisting our president and vice presidents when needed. I additionally have been rewarded several times for my character, for example, the citizen's award. This award is given to model citizens.
I want to help the next generation understand math, along with other subjects, at a low cost to parents. I cannot wait to meet, and teach the next generation!
I enjoy helping students. I love to see the "oh" face students make when they finally understand how to do a problem. Or when a student doesn't need me to hold their hand anymore. It truly makes me feel whole.
My training for Teen Talk has taught me a lot about children, and how to correctly interact with them. I learned how to convey empathy, how to truly listen to a person, and how to be there for others. This skill is essential for interacting with children.
