About Lori
My love of teaching comes from a live long love of learning. As a Ph.D. graduate, I know that hard work and dedication to learning can pay off. As a private tutor for the past 10 years, I have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of students realize their own potential and see their grades and test scores improve.
I specialize in tutoring chemistry - from high school level, AP chemistry, and freshman general chemistry, to advanced physical chemistry courses. I also tutor math classes from algebra and SAT prep to all levels of calculus.
One of my goals is to explain concepts to students in a way that they understand. I strive to tailor each lesson to the specific student's learning strengths. Rather than just show the student how to solve a problem, I teach the student how to read and understand the problem, and how to find a pathway to the answer.
My base pay is $50/hour for in-person or remote online lessons. I also offer lesson packages at a discount.

My Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry required a deep understanding in math. I tutor any level of calculus, high school math, SAT math, or undergraduate college math.
While I specialize in all levels and specializations in chemistry, I also teach general physics.

I began tutoring at the local Boys and Girls Club when I was a high school student. In college I tutored both for the chemistry department at my school and also at one of the local middle schools. In graduate school I continued my tutoring and began teaching undergraduate chemistry labs. After I graduated with my Ph.D., I stopped tutoring briefly during my post doc. I quickly realized I am very passionate about education, and after just a few months began tutoring again. My tutoring has evolved into not only chemistry and math tutoring, but also encouragement and teaching of life skills. Goals are so important, and schools don't always teach the value of making and achieving goals.
I have a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry and over 10 years experience in private tutoring. I have taught honors labs at the University of Arizona, and I currently teach life skills to younger children through a martial arts program.
In addition to tutoring, I offer online courses for student motivation and life skills, goal planning, and college application prep. I am a public motivational speaker for middle school, high school, and college kids.

I always begin by asking students about their goals, both for the class and larger scale. Usually students reply that they want to get an A. I use a series of questions to help students see based on their goals that learning the material is more important than just receiving an "A," and once students see this they tend to have a little more motivation to work hard to understand the material.
From there we talk about where the course is and where the student struggles most, and address gaps in understanding while also learning new material.
I have worked with all ages and types of students, from middle school, to college, to professionals returning to school.
