When woking with a new student, I first want to learn what study habits they currently practice, and understand what they find to be their best strengths and weaknesses. After talking about study habits, and time managment, I would offer my advice on how to improve their weaknesses. When it comes to content, I like to have the student show me what they understand about the topic, and then I will come in afterwards and help fill in necessary gaps, and explain processes, backgrounds, and go through plenty of example problems. At the end I like the student to show me what they know, becuase I beleive the best way to learn is to teach, and so if they can "teach" the content back to me, then they will better internalize what they need to know
