About Chloe
I am a college student with a passion for teaching mathematics. I have been tutoring pre-algebra, algebra 1 and algebra 2 in Winter Park, FL for over a year and have come to see that the potential to excel in mathematics is within all of us! I hope that by working with students I can help them build the skillset and the confidence to succeed in the classroom. As George Polya stated in his book How to Solve It, "Solving problems is a practical art, like swimming, or skiing, or playing the piano: you can learn it only by imitation and practice."
My favorite thing about tutoring is seeing students have that "ah-ha" moment when they start to understand a new concept. Also, nothing is more rewarding than teaching younger students the important value of hard work. The best part is when a student tells me they took my study advice after our session and end up getting a good grade on a test!
I started tutoring my sister when she was in 5th grade. She was already doing well in her math classes but wanted to get ahead. We came up with a plan together over the summer and she ended up breezing through algebra 1 the following year with an A in the course!
During my college calculus course, I fell in love with the subject and wanted to get involved in helping others excel. I started teaching pre-algebra in 2019 and helped many of my students raise their grades an entire letter grade.
I'm currently in college studying environmental engineering and I have taken courses up to Calculus 3, achieving A's in every math course so far.

Before the meeting, I prepare a 10 question diagnostic quiz based on the grade level of the student. After grading the quiz I talk to them about their math background and where they feel like they are struggling. I go over any questions they missed on the diagnostic and then help them come up with a study plan to get on track if they are behind while still maintaining their current math course. We spend the rest of the first session going over any questions the student has about their current lessons.
Often times, the students I work with have problems with questions below their current grade level when we start sessions. It is so important for students to learn anything they missed from past math classes because the subject is cumulative. At the end of every session, the student and I discuss the plan with the parents and we organize an itinerary of our following sessions according to the needs of the student.
I have worked with middle school, high school, and college students. I've also helped someone study for the GRE.
No matter who your tutor is, your study habits will have the biggest impact on your success in any course, especially math. You will get the best use out of any tutor you hire if you come prepared for the sessions. Keep up with your homework assignments, don't give up, and come to your sessions with questions ready. Don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions outside of sessions either. I tell all of my students (and their parents) that they can text me a question at any time and I'll try to get back to them as soon as I can (free of charge).
