About Yang

I’m Yang Xu, a professional violinist with over 20 years of teaching experience. I hold my B.M in Violin and M.M in Violin performance degrees from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. My teaching focuses on solid technique, musical understanding, and helping each student reach their full potential. Since 2000, I have taught many violin students ages 4 and up, preparing many for youth orchestra auditions (California Youth Symphony, Fremont Youth Symphony Orchestra, CODA State Honor String Orchestra) and MTAC Certificate of Merit examinations. My teaching emphasizes positive reinforcement, structured practice, parent engagement, and fostering musical expression and discipline. I have completed comprehensive Suzuki training from 2003 to 2017 through the Santa Rosa Suzuki Institute, Seattle International Suzuki Institute, and the Advanced Suzuki Institute at Stanford, including Violin Foundation 1A & 1B, Units 2–4, Violin Practicum, and the enrichment course Bow Development from Twinkle to Mendelssohn. I have studied with esteemed teacher trainers, including Edmund Sprunger, Yuko Honda, Joseph Kaminsky, Cathryn Lee, and Ann Montzka Smelser. m deeply committed to nurturing students’ musical, personal, and creative growth in alignment with develop curiosity, collaboration, confidence, and empathy through music.
