About Rebecca
I am a highly qualified, professional oboist who has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician for audiences across the United States, Germany, and Korea.
Currently, I am the Professor of Oboe at Western Illinois University, and have over 12 years of experience teaching privately.
I play Principal Oboe in the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, Principal Oboe in the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, and am the Oboist of the Volante Winds, a professional woodwind quintet.
I have Master's degree in Oboe Performance from The University of Texas at Austin and am finishing a Doctorate in Oboe Performance at the Indiana University Jacob's School of Music, where I studied with oboists Roger Roe of the Indiannapolis Symphony, as well as famous oboist and pedagogue Linda Strommen.
I've worked and studied with some of America's greatest Oboists, including Elaine Douvas (Juilliard), Frank Rosenwein (Cleveland Symphony), Eugene Izotov (San Francisco Symphony).
Above all else, I absolutely love to teach. Private oboe lessons in particular are an incredibly rewarding experience for both myself and my students.
I've enjoyed teaching all ages and skill levels, from elementary school beginners, to college performance majors at top Universities.
In early 2020, I delved into the world of online oboe lessons, and found that they are equally as fulfilling and successful as in-person lessons.

The first lesson typically consists of a discussion of goals and aspirations, then some playing to assess skill level and explore individual strengths and challenges.
Depending on the student's needs and ambitions, we then delve straight into oboe technique, etudes, repertoire, and/or anything else that they may require or is interested in learning.
