About Marco
There is no feeling like that of seeing that light go off in a student's head when something clicks. I have been teaching since 2003 and still keep in touch with my students to this day. I teach teens and adults of all ages and have helped people get promoted at work, enhance their travels, and even garner citizenships in other countries. I bring to the table perfect accents which few people have (standard American, Portuguese from Portugal and Brazil, Spanish from Spain, and South America). I have a friendly, energetic, enthusiastic style. It's important to me to have fun while I teach so that my students do too.
Making a difference in my student's lives is huge to me. Every "A" that my teens receive, or their faces when they have learned something without even realizing it.
I also enjoy the flexible hours and being my own boss.
I love teaching pronunciation in all my target languages. With my CalArts degree, I am well trained in voice, speech, and dialects. I have a blast teaching this.
I began teaching in college to help pay for school. I was trained by Berlitz.
I was born in Brazil, so am fluent in Brasilian Portuguese. I moved to Portugal as a small child, so I am fluent in European Portuguese. I summered in Spain (because my grandparents are from Spain), so I am fluent in Spanish (native level). I studied English and German since the age of four (so I am fluent at those languages as well). I came to the US for my BA at CalArts.

My initial assessment begins by meeting or e-meeting the student, and discussing what their needs and wants are, their level of proficiency, and what their immediate and long-term goals are. I also tailor make classes to their modalities: visual, oral, musical, etc.
I have worked with teens who are studying languages in school, couples in their 30's - 60's, or even 70's looking to learn languages for travel, professionals who need to learn ESL and/or Spanish, or Portuguese for their work, or to attain citizenship.
Be sure to interview them and be clear as to what your goals are, and to ask them what methods and manners of teaching they use. But also try to get a sense of their personality to make sure you are a match for each other. And if possible, ask for a 10 minute demo lesson, in order to get a clear idea of how the teacher works.
My last trip to Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto) in 2019 was an absolute dream. Especially for someone like me who loves Japanese History, samurai, anime, manga, gaming, etc.

Marco is an amazing tutor and person! In the many years I worked with him he always made lessons fun, accessible, and relevant. He would correct you when necessary, never rushed the learning process, and was always encouraging. I loved that our lessons were more than just the textbook and exercises.
