About Jim
You want to make better photographs. I love teaching,. Our focus is on your projects, and improving how you see, compose and curate your vision.
1) Working closely together, we talk about your needs. We design visual projects using your with your digital camera, iPhone or digital camera. You get support and encouragement for your work. I consult closely with you on your ideas, giving feedback, coaching, tips and resources. We connect by phone, and on social media.
2) We'll discuss topics: gear, lighting, portfolio, web photography, composition, marketing, web presence including Insta, FB, Twitter.
3) I enjoy working with students, and have been teaching photography for 25 years. I attend workshops and upgrade my own skills and gear. I'm an Adobe Certified Expert, teach PS and LR, and publish a fine art photo eZine.

I am passionate and enthusiastic about photography. I enjoy my exchange with students, we learn together. I am delighted to see all students advance their skills and experience.
I was an assistant professor in the Design Deparment of Colorado University, teaching photography and design.
I have a masters degree, have taught at University of Colorado 5 years, and have been teaching photography online for 15 years to students worldwide.

We had a birding photo adventure in SE USA. We had a photography walk in Saint Augustine. I taught a conference hall in Melbourne Florida on creative photography.

Jim is a great photographer and instructor. He explains things in a way that make it easy to understand and is very patient. His honest constructive critiques student work add to the learning experience. I have worked with Jim for nine years and he has helped me improve my approach to photography tremendously. Plus, he’s a very nice person.
Jim is patient and has a wealth of info. If he doesn't know something, he gets back to me with an answer promptly. He is very flexible about meeting your schedule and about what areas of photography you want to cover, what projects or books you want to do. He is a fine teacher and after 5+ years and several series of lessons. I've seen my photography improve and enjoy the whole process of making picture more personally sayisfying.
