Dr. John Buono is very knowledgeable in photography, both in the fundamentals and in the application of them. He has a natural ability to relate to the student and can apply his skills to your particular area of interest. When the lighting changes, as it inevitably does unless you are in a studio, John is there to help the student deal with that ever-changing light.

He uses practical hands-on exercises in teaching and also shares his experiences to help emphasize points. This means that the student not only learns what to do in a particular circumstance but WHY to do it. Understanding the "why" of something allows you to customize your actions in the future. Photography is based on a set of "rules" yet those "rules" are meant to be broken from time to time. The good photographer will know when and how to break those rules. Knowing the "why" is what will help you do that successfully.

Some things apply to all aspects of photography yet John can relate the issue at hand to your particular camera/equipment with ease. This is especially useful as no two photographers have the same equipment.

Whether it is the fundamentals of the lighting triangle which is the foundation of all things photography, or the creative manipulation thereof which is the goal of the photographer and as such is the difference between the beginner and the more advanced, I strongly recommend his workshops and photo-walks!
