About Cassandra
All Trades Music Academy makes your music goal accessible, whether it's nailing your next audition, writing your next (or first!) great song, feeling confident in your sight-reading skills, or delivering a performance you can be proud of -- even if it's just for yourself. With more than 10 years of training and experience in the many facets of the music world, ATMA's individualized approach ensures enjoyable and effective training for the student, regardless of age, background, style, or dream.
Music is such a personal art form, and therefore can be a very difficult thing to study. What I love about teaching music -- whether it's performance, theory, prepping for a specific audition, or writing a lyric or progression for the first time -- is enabling another human to do something they may have never thought they could, or enabling them to do something they love at a level they only dreamed of. Everyone deserves to feel confident in their musical ability, and it is truly rewarding to facilitate the birth and/or growth of that confidence.
I began teaching while I was a student in college, immediately taking what I had learned in each course and tutoring/TA'ing the class after me. After graduation, I went on to be a Music Director with local cathedrals and ensembles and then into the public school system to teach elementary school music, where I wrote my own curriculum as well as wrote and directed an original musical for 2nd grade.
I have taught music from elementary school to university levels, both in group class settings as well as individual instruction. I have taught music theory, classical piano, vocal performance (classical, jazz, musical theatre, and commercial/pop), beginner guitar, songwriting, and composing/orchestrating/arranging.
I have my B.A. in Music with concentrations in vocal performance, theory studies, composition, and songwriting. I was named Musician of the Year my senior year.
I have toured the United States as both a singer-songwriter and also jazz vocalist accompanied by a full jazz band. I have also toured the United States and Europe as a classical singer/conductor with an a capella choir. My classical compositions have been performed and recorded by individuals and ensembles and has been featured in Nashville Originals concerts and forums.

Every new student can expect to have an introductory conversation to highlight their goals and get acquainted with their learning and motivational style in order to maximize the effectiveness of lessons. From there, we'll address the fundamental principles required to acheive these goals and create a individualized lesson plan to establish new skills or facilitate the growth of skills already in place while integrating previous knowledge and experience.
I have worked with students from age 4 to age 44. I have worked with a variety of learning styles and worked toward a variety of different goals.
Do not be afraid to try a lesson or two with multiple teachers. Not everyone's method of teaching will be well suited to your goals or your style of learning. Finding someone professional who you are able to feel comfortable and see results with is a subjective process. Do not stop working toward your music education goals just because you did not gel with your first teacher or had a difficult lesson.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
As much as you can discern, have an idea of your goals and know your "why". Learning and perfecting any craft is hard work, and having a clear picture of what you are working toward and what is driving you will make all the difference.
