About Rachael

From beginners to advanced. Young, mature, or in-between, our lessons will bring you through your music journey.

As your guide I will instruct you with inviting, comprehensive, and stress free exercises and games.

I will take your child step by step through the benchmarks we set together.

-Read music within three months.

-Be ready to perform for others within three months.

-Be ready to play music after the first lesson.

-Be ready to be evaluated by an accredited program within the first year.

I started 15 years ago teaching out of Barkers Music in Modesto after working as a substitute teacher for 2 years.  I started with 1 student, in a year I had over 20 students and in two years I had a full time studio of over 40 students.

I have a Bachelor Degree in Music with an emphasis in Piano Performance from CSU Stanislaus.  I am certified through Music Teachers of California, and I am a member of Music Teachers National Association Texas-Pearland branch. I am Kindermusik certified. I have also served as a music director for several churches in a 17 year span.

I love working with new students in the studio. Beginners lessons are typically split into thirds. The first third is filled with technical exercises as well as body movement and awareness exercises. The second third is working on specific songs picked just for that student. The last third is taken up by custom made theory games that are fun and educational.

All ages and levels.

Ask about the teacher's experience and training.  A lot of teachers did not get very far as pianists themselves and are limited on how far they can take a student. I recommend finding a teacher who is affiliated with their local music teaching organization because they are held to a higher standard than the average piano teacher and are able to enter their students in county and state recitals, festivals, and evaluations.

Organization is important also.  Do they have a studio policy?  Do their students perform?  What kind of lesson plans do they have?  What materials do they use?

I have had a handful of students from my studio go on to become wonderful piano teachers themselves.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
When you are ready to start lessons, make sure you have an adequate instrument to practice on.  You will need an 88 key fully weighted keyboard with a piano pedal, a digital piano, or an acoustic piano.

It is also important to set a routine of daily practice.  Ask yourself what time every day will you practice, and can you practice 5 days a week?
