About Lynne

Music is my passion and I am so fortunate to be able to devote my life's work to this passion! I have taught students of all ages and abilities for over 35 years from Ivory Moon Piano Studio, including many students with special needs such as autism, Down's Syndrome, brain injury, and arthritis. Along the way, I started a Kindermusik business and taught both music and drama in two private schools as well. What I have learned over the years is that no two students learn the same way, so I approach each student individually and discover the best method of learning for their particular needs. While I am a classically trained musician, I teach rock, jazz, pop, gospel and many other types of music. As a member of both both the Charles County, Maryland and Knoxville, Tennessee chapters of MTNA, I am consistantly learning new teaching methods, and collaborating with other music teachers. Irecently moved to gorgeous Knoxville, Tennessee, have set up a wonderful studio here and am currently accepting new students. Oh, and let me not forget to mention, I teach online as well! I would love to welcme you to Ivory Moon Piano Studio! Please feel free to visit my website at (concealed information) for more information. You can also find me on Facebook at Ivory Moon Piano Studio.

I quit my job as a nurse in 1987, to pursue my dream of teaching piano. Within a couple of years I had the largest studio in my city, and the rest, as they say, is history. I never looked back, and have continued teaching for 35 years.

I am classically trained, beginning at the age of  10 and was my church pianist by the time I was a teenager. I studied music at Arizona Western College, and have been an active member of MTNA and it's local chapters since 1987. Currently, I am a member of Music Teachers Association of Charles County and Knoxville Music Teachers Association.  I was actively involved with the National Guild of Piano Teachers for over 30 years, and taught both music and drama at Grace Academy in Waldorf, Maryland for 4 years and also at St. Peter's School from 2012 through 2016.  As a certified Kindermusik teacher I ran a Kindermusik business in Charles County, Maryland for many years.

I generally like to meet with each new student to discuss previous musical experience, if any, and get a feel for their particular learning style. Over the course of the next few weeks and months, as we began n to develope a rapport, I taylor the way I teach to the way they learn.

I work with students of all ages and musical abilities. I love teaching adult students as well as the little ones. I taught Kindermusik for many years, so worked with toddlers.I have worked successfully with students diagnosed with autism, brain injuries, arthritis, and Down's Syndrome.

Meet with prospective teachers, see what feels like a good fit. Look for an instructor who teaches theory and proper technique as well as repertoire. Discuss any special needs. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Experience is often more important than music degrees.

My studio in Maryland was well known for holding  benefit concerts. We raised money for Hurricane Katrina, the earthquake in Haiti, local shelters, and many other causes. It was a wonderful experience for the students to give back to the world through their music.
