About Janis
For more than 25 years, Sound Learning Piano has been helping beginning and intermediate piano students reach their music potential with the right materials, insight, and encouragement.
Working one-on-one with students and discovering how they learn is challenging and fulfilling. There is no greater joy than when a student "gets it."
I was selling pianos in Virginia Beach. A family with a young girl came in to purchase and the little girl bonded with me and insisted that she wanted me to teach her. I've been teaching ever since then (25 years ago).
We have three teachers with music degrees (two with Bachelors in Music and one with a Masters Degree in Piano Performance).

It depends on the age and experience of the student. We work with students as young as 3-years-old to adults.
We love the challenge of working with a wide variety of students. We work with those with learning and developmental challenges, highly-motivated students, and seniors.
Adequate scheduled practice time at home is the surest guarantee that you will achieve your goals of learning. It is important to understand that in order to become proficient, it takes more than just attending a weekly class.
We have recently opened the doors of our brand new studio that allows us to have three students learning at the same time! We also have a comprehensive computerized learning center.

What are your ultimate goals for the piano? Do you want to learn to develop your ear? Are you interested in composing music? Are you interested in a more traditional lesson in which you are learning music theory and reading music?
