About Amy
I have studied music acquisition from 3 different angles: language acquisition and music neuroscience, (Linguistics major at Montclair State University)violin pedagogy, and movement (Dalcroze Eurythmics, Yoga Teacher Training, Paul Rolland Method).
I teach different styles of music and actively foster student creativity.
Fluency in music is everyone's right! I enjoy seeing students grow and learn. I enjoy seeing students overcome challenges, learn a skill that in a digital world, gets to the core of what it means to be human. i enjoy seeing students have music within them for the rest of their lives because they took lessons with me.
I started teaching by accident! I had prepared since I was 10 years old to be a professional musician, but the hyper competitive environment of classical music had really took its toll on me. I studied at Manhattan School of Music and Trinity College of Music, London in performance and teaching. I took a break from music to study linguistics and language acquisition at Univeristy, and through studying linguistics learned so much about the neuroscience of acquiring language, and consequently, music! I began teaching almost by accident 20 years ago thinking I was going to give up music, and discovered I love teaching. I have had a studio of 30-60 students since then consistently. I love helping students learn to grow thier ability and get music for life.

We discuss where they are at, and where they want to go! I start slowly and am always patient and non judgmental. When students transfer from another teacher, we work together to see where they are and how my approach might be different. We get to know each other and learn the lesson is a safe environment for their work! Each student is an individual and so I spend time learning who you are and how you learn best. We make time for foundational exercises, creativity, and whatever else is needed for you to profess.
All types! ages 2 and up. I've worked with visually impaired students, autistic students, every age from 2-72, every level. I love helping students discover themselves and how they learn, who they are, and what they love.
Find the right fit for you. Learning is about flow and being inspired. Your teacher will guide you through the work, but in the end it is your work! A good teacher works so that you don't need them anymore in the end :)
A recent event I am fond of is transitioning my entire studio online! We've found such creative ways to make it work and keep our spirits up. Music was made for these times. My students are doing so very well.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The number one thing I can say is that if lessons don't seem to be working, please speak with the teacher about it before deciding that it's a lost cause. So many issues can be addressed simply by communication. Lessons are about learning the process of learning as much as they are about accomplishment. A good teacher is your guide, the relationship you have with your teacher is very important. Your teacher has learned the tools to help you learn, and through the relationship of teacher and student you both grow! Personality and fit does play a role.

Details
Lessons are priced at $45 per half hour/$60 per 45 mins and $80 per hour. Lessons are 100% online for the time being. The fee allows me the time I require to focus on each student individually and have time to prepare materials outside of the lesson.
