About Katie
I love the joy that music brings! I started playing the piano when I was 5 years old and I've never looked back. I can still remember riding my bike to my first piano teacher's house and how fun she made the lessons and learning! I hope to be that for your beginning students. Learning to read music and play an instrument is like learning another language, which can be challenging but exciting! My goal is to instill a love for music and the confidence to become the pianist who can play anything! I can't wait to help little minds grow!
One of my main goals in life is to uplift and inspire youth to live to their full potential and move confidently towards their dreams. I enjoy teaching piano lessons because I get to make working towards what can be a challenging goal of learning to play the piano fun and rewarding. I hope to inpsire knowledge of self worth and inner strength as well as the technicality of music and piano performance.
I started taking piano lessons when I was 5 years old up until I went to college. I have been involved with piano festivals and competitions for years and have learned from some of the greatest teachers. These expiriences have instilled in me a knowledge of music and a passion for performance and adding emotion and feeling into what I play. I have a great knowledge of piano theory and music history. I am excited to pass this on to beginning students!

The first lesson is used to identify how much the student knows about reading music and the piano, what level they will start at with me, their goals in taking piano lessons, and to get to know them a little bit as a person. I use Faber Piano Adventures books which the student would be required to provide, as well as a wide ruled notebook, and flash cards. These books take us through the basics of piano in a very well put together way. When students have progressed enough and know how to read some of the notes, we will introduce very simplified popular music that they are interested in playing, or some of their "goal music". If parents and students are interested, we will also work on music that will be played at local piano festivals and competitions. I really try to cater to the learning style of each student so that learning stays fun and effective.
I typically teach beginning piano students but have taught at higher levels as well. I have taught students from age 6 to age 76. Its never to late to start learning!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Piano lessons have been such a wonderful blessing in my life, but I dont know if I would have progressed as far as I have without a mom who was commited to my sucess. It isn't always easy for a student to stay motivated, so its important for them to have a parent who is willing to remind them to practice and look over their piano notebook and practicing assignments weekly. I am fully aware that life gets crazy and some weeks will go more smoothly than others, but if it comes down to it, sometimes young students need a parent that will sit next to them and help them through the practicing process if progression has stagnated.

Katie is an exceptional teacher. She is a very gifted pianist herself and has a fun yet disciplined way of helping students gain understanding of piano methods and theory. I always loved how she helped my children polish the pieces they learned. That have them confidence when they performed in festivals and recitals. I would highly recommend Katie for a teacher.
She was very patient and kind in teaching all her students including me.
I never had lessons from Katie personally, but I know she plays BEAUTIFULLY. And I have no doubt she would be an excellent piano teacher!

Details
I typically charge $60 per month per student. This includes one thirty minute lesson per week, and possible group lessons nearing recitals and festivals. For some families it is easier to split payments into $30 payments every two weeks, which is fine with me. Payment is required at the beginning of the month or at the beginning of each two week period.
