About Maria
My service stands out because I am a high school student and have a lot of experience with being tutored. While adult tutors may be more systematic, I believe that my age and experiences make me more understanding towards other K-12 students. I clearly remember listening to the many adult tutors I had that gave me unecessary and undigestable information they learned in college and not understanding any of it. My simple and spontanious approach is way more comprehensible for any teenager and will make the process more enjoyable, making better scores easier.
I love teaching and demystifying "hard" subjects. It feels like solving a puzzle, where every student is different and needs very specific approaches. In teaching, there is no place for judgement, but a lot of encouragement and a tiny bit of strictness to keep the student going and open to new ideas.
I have helped my classmates with math and art a lot.
SAT: While I am a high school student, I believe that I am very qualified to teach SAT for the money I get. I have earned a near-perfect score of 780 on the math SAT section this fall and a total of 1450 points. I have a lot of experience with being turoted and know exactly what happens on the other side, in the student's brain. I believe that communication is key and am willing to adjust to any needs a student may express.
Art: I have won the Fairfax PTA contest and earned second place in Northern Virginia PTA. Last year I earned silver in Fairfax PTA. I also earned a silver key in the Scholastic competition for Northern Virginia. I am struggling to attach photos of my art in the Tutors website, but you are more than welcomed to check out my Instagram at @dontneedpaperanymore

1) Get to know each other. This process will usually be a fun conversation in which both the student and I will discuss who we are and what we like, but I will also give a few tasks to understand the student's thought process and skill level. This "get to know each other" session is free.
2) I don't believe in giving students lots of work during class. Since we have limited time and I want to stay respectful of the money I receive for teaching my student, I will try to make most of the time we spend together. Waiting for students to solve a problem is a good practice but takes a lot of time without getting the information in. I usually prefer a more dense inflow of information without overloading the student, of course. I will request a lot of feedback and adjust to the student's needs, as we all learn differently.
3) I have many resources for practicing the SAT. This includes books from College Board and Princeton. All sources have different approaches, but I will balance them out to create a more well rounded growing process.
4) Classes will be held online on platforms such as Skype or Face Time. I will usually send photos of the homework problems in the chat and will request the homework to be completed and submitted in the same fassion before class.
Mostly highschoolers, but I did get to teach a few little kids art as well.
Don't look at marketing, look at teachig. There is a ton of teachers that will come with ice cream shop gift cards to get their students to like them and pay them money. However, thir classes are very vague and inproductive.
I've never answered a question like this, but I guess Thanksgiving because I baked my first ever turkey all by myself and it came out pretty good.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There are no such questions. We will discuss everything. That's what we get paid for.
