About Andrew
We travel to schools all over the United States to train 4th to 12th grade students to carve images on stone in ten sessions. Then, we approach the town or city where they live to ask the best students to carve a permanent, public monument. No one else does anything like this. See more at (concealed information)
I have taught since 1985, usually to just one apprentice. At that time, I also travelled to universities around the world lecturing for one, two, or three days on a variety of subjects having to do with art. I was a resource for the Fulbright organization.
I trained under master marble carvers near Carrara, Italy, after graduating with a degree in Fine Arts from Syracuse University. I have carved marble all my life as a professional sculptor, and am an elected member of the National Sculpture Society.

We start by showing how each chisel works, and then have them draw the image they want to carve on paper. Then, we cut the image out carefully, and glue it to the stone. They work outside the edge of the paper, practising using the tools as they remove stone around their image. As they get better, they carve the edge around their image, and then carve the details right through the paper where they marked them.
I have worked with students as young as second grade, through elementary, middle and high school, through college and graduate programs, and with adult professionals.

Prices are $1500.00 for ten lessons with thirty, sixty or ninety students. Tools and stone are supplied, and depending on distance, travel expenses may also be required. Up to 250 miles is free.
