About Lisa
Sewing has enriched my life in so many ways, and I would love to share this joy and satisfaction with others. I will take students from the very start, and teach them all the ins and outs of choosing, designing, sewing and completing a project. This project can be anything of a textile nature, from curtains to table linens, to a quilt, throw, pillow, or garment. I teach not only garment/project construction, but color palette, pattern selection, trims buttons and accessorizing your project, and all the little nuances and shortcuts I learned from my mother, who in turn learned from her mother, and from her mother's mother, who came to the United States from Sweden in the late 1880s and was a professional seamstress. These little tricks and tips are timeless, but so very useful and make sewing so much easier! I look forward to sharing all I know with you!
I can't think about sewing without feeling so grateful for my mother, who had the patience and dedication to teach me to sew beginning with my very first hand-sewn stuffed chicken toy from the McCall's craft book at about eight years old. I was so impressed that I actually made something real! It was life-changing. At the age of 12 I wanted to make a dress. She took me to the store and showed me how to choose a pattern and the perfect fabric and color palette and trims that would make it look amazing! She showed me how to lay out the pattern on the fabric and cut it out... experience the frustration and joy as my project slowly became a real dress, complete with bloomers- pure magic to me! I was so thrilled that I actually did it all myself! I want my students to know this same joy that comes from accomplishment and using our own creative instincts to make something beautiful and useful. Nothing compares to the joy of creative achievement! Sadly, these skills are not taught in school much anymore, and there's a whole generation of people with no idea what they're missing, or the basic life skills they lack. I want people to experience the joy of learning to use their creativity, and, trusting in their own ideas to create a thing that is truly their own.
Over the years I had friends who wanted to learn. I very much enjoyed teaching them and watching their skills blossom as they created their beautiful projects. Then there were friends of friends and others with the desire to learn. I also taught my children to sew, even my son. Sewing is an important life skill for everyone. After all, we all need clothes! Being able to repair our clothes is important.
I have been a seamstress since I was 12 years old. I have done some sewing and alterations professionally, but mostly I just do it for my own pleasure and needs.
I love sharing this valuable skill and look forward to a successful and long relationship with my students as their sewing skills blossom.

I begin by discussing the students goals and desires for sewing. I hope them select a project that is suitable for their level of skill. For beginners, we usually start with a very simple pattern. For children usually just a skirt, apron, or pillow. I guide them through each step of the process as they work to complete their project, from selecting a pattern and fabric all the way to the final touches of completion.
Once the first project is completed, they may continue on to a project requiring a slightly higher level of skill, such as a blouse or top, or even a full dress or pants.
Where we go from there is entirely up to the student and their personal sewing goals.
So far mainly moms and children learning government construction . But I would like to get more into teaching people about costuming, quilting, and other sewing pursuits as well.
Seeing the pride on children’s faces when they won a ribbon at the fair for an article of clothing they made!

$10 per hour for each additional person at the session, up to 4 people per session.
Minimum session for class with more than 3 people is 2 hours.
